Allah (azzawajal), the Creator has made several creations like, Humans, Angels, Jins, and Animals etc. And according to Islamic teaching Humans are superior from any creation. Having this belief is also one of the fundamentals of Islam, although Islam has a different point of view regarding “dJins”. Usually people in west called them “Demons” or “Aliens” or “Evil beings” etc. Some might call them spirits. In this article we would present the most authentic information available in Islamic literature regarding Jins.
Analysis of Word “Jinn”
This word is an Arabic word (جن), having two words “Jeem” and “Nun” in it. The people of any language uses two meanings for the specific words, i-e literal and Real meaning. For example in the word “Ramzan” in which Muslims do Fasting, in Urdu “roza’s” literal means to abide ourself from doing something or in more simple words to stopping ourselves, and during fast because human keep himself away from many valid things like eating and drinking, so thats the reason for literal meaning of word “roza”. While in proper sense and meaning, it means the abiding or stopping from eating drinking and doing sex during time period from early in the morning i-e from Fajar to Maghrib time. and it is called “Roza” in that sense. I hope this will clear what i want to say. now let us see what are the both meanings and terms for word “Jin”.
The literal meaning of “Jin” is “Curtain”, Darkness, Hiding, or Hidden thing. Because Jins are hidden from us like hiding behind a curtain, thats why they are not seen by our eyes, this is also one reason for calling them “Jin”, while in proper meaning “Jin” are that creation which is created by smokeless fire (as mentioned in Quran) and which can easily change themselves in any disguise, and any shape.
In Arabic language where ever “Jeem” and “Nun” are combined it always somehow show the sensitivity of hide in meaning. Heart is because best place for hiding matters and the thing in hearts are hidden from people, thats why in Arabic it is called “Jinan“, just alike madness, which hide the consciousness so the mad person is called “Majnun“. Even the not born in the womb of mother is because hidden, and so do the person who is in grave, he is also hidden, thats why for the dead in grave and the child in womb is called “Jineen” in Arabic. Also like a garden can hide its trees or curtained its trees with the petals and leaves it cover the ground thats why in arabic its called “Jan-natt” and because everlasting garden which will be granted to Muslims on the day of judgement, its also hidden thats why it is also called “Jannah” or “jannat”.
Now if you compare all those words and have a deep look, we will find that in all these words there are two words been used.
(1) Jeem and ج
(2) Nun “noon” ن
and both are having somehow a hidden effect in literal and other meaning, so the word “Jin” is also included in this category that because these entities are not usually seen by anyone that’s why they are called “Jin(s)”. If someone says that it is not possible for a smokeless or any fire to produce any sort of life in it, then they have to realise this scientific fact that Protons, Neutrons are also form of energies and LIVING ENERGIES as scientists consider them now, and its not impossible for Allah (azawwajal) to create a distinct form of creation “Makhlooq” which can live in their own dimensions and according to their own laws given by Allah. Because Jins are having more powers in that sense from the Human race who are created by clay, that’s why they have very long ages.
Birth of Jinnaats:
All of the narrations which i studied, combining all that with my own research i come to this conclusion that, Allah (azzawajal) has made “Jins” some 60 thousand years before the creation of Man. i-e Adam (alehisalam). In one narration its 2 thousand years and in another narration its said 44 thousand years). Quran says :
And created jinn from the flame of fire.
and He created the Jann, the father of the jinn, namely, Iblis, of a smokeless flame of fire. (Exegesis Jalalain)

There is narration in Muslim Shareef narrated by Umul Momineen Aisha Siddiqa (rda) in which she says that Rasool Allah alehisalam said:” because Angels are made up from Noor and Jins are made purely from smokeless fire and Adam (as) was made up of clay”. So we got that the Jin’s realy substance is Fire(smokeless) just like us humans who are made up of Clay. In Quran there is also stated that Satan said to Allah that “You had made me from fire and Adam (as) from clay”, this is also proof that Jins are creatures of fire.(Tafhim al Bukhari Sharha al Bukhari Vol 5 Page 102).
Just like Allah created Adam as first Human among human race, and granted him name of “Abul Bashr” (father of the humans), just like that Allah made Iblees (Shytan, Satan, Azazil) first among his race, and he is called “Abul Jaan“. In Tafseer al Jalalain it is said that
Meaning: Iblees (Satan) is the father of JINS who were living among Malaika (Angels). In Nuzhatul Majalis, Qadi Iyad (rta) says, that Iblees is the father of race of the Jins just like Adam is the Father of all Human kind.
That means without any doubt Satan gave eggs and his children born through this. And again in another narration it is recorded like previous that he has two organs in his body male and female and when he intercoursed them with eachother this makes him pregnant and from that pregnancy the child is borned.
In one narration Imam mujahid says about this thing (ie male female organ), further he stated that from this intercourse he give 10 eggs and from each egg 70 male and female Satans (demons) borns. (Fatawa naimia page 159)
(Note: may be that is the reason that Satanists depict their so called ‘falling angel’ as half woman and half goat with horns having one hand up and one hand down as shown in this given figure in the end)
When Allah made Iblees first among the Jins and he got lots of children, at that time first Angels was placed on Sky and Jins on the earth by Allah, those Jins lived for 7000 years on the earth, in one other narration its said about 2000 years. Then they started fighting among eachother and because of their internal problems and clashes they killed each other and spread so much bloodshed.
Quran says:
When Allah says to angels that i am pointing one of my Khalifa (vicegerent) on earth, the angels replied Him:
“And (remember) when your Lord said to the angels, I am about to place My Caliph in the earth; they said, Will You place (as a caliph) one who will spread turmoil in it and shed blood? Whereas we glorify You with praise and proclaim Your Sanctity; He said, I know what you do not.”(Baqarah -2:30)
Question arise that why Angels said like this? the answer to this question is because they were already seen the bloodshed of “Jins” on earth, so they told that because of this previous bad experience.
IBLEES (SATAN):
That time the name of “Iblees” was “Azazeel“. He was very popular in the courtship of Almighty and was a big scholar and very pious and humble. He was ordered to take angels with him and throw out all “Jins” away from earth and settle them in caves and jungles, so Ibless do same as he was ordered.
In tafsir al jalalain it is stated that:
translation:
means, when Jins started “fasad” on the earth, then Almighty send angels towards them, who throw them towards shores and mountains, those angels who came with Iblees settled and stayed on earth, so angels were divided into two groups, one angels on earth and second angels on the sky. And for doing and fulfilling orders clearly and orderly Allah almighty granted Iblees (Satan), kingdom of earth and kingdom of the first sky and also granted him treasures of Jannah (paradise). So Satan started to prostate sometimes on earth and sometimes on sky and sometimes in paradise. This ups in status made him arrogant and he consider himself superior than all Angels. (Tafsir al naeemi, vol 1 page 220)
Sending Curse upon himself:
Its stated that Iblees once saw a writing on the door of the Paradise, which was saying that a person who was so much gifted and granted by Allah, was given orders to do something and he rejects and oppose that!. When satan saw this he asked in the Lordship of Allah Almighty that O my Lord! give me permission so i can curse that person”. So for 1000 years he cursed on himself, although on first sky his name was “Abid”, on second sky he was named by “Rak’Ay’, on third “Saajid” , on forth sky “Khash’e'” on fifth “Amein” on Sixth sky “Mujtahd” and on seventh he was named by “Zahid” (pious) but then his name was popular by “Iblees” “Shytan” when he commit sin and when he was frustrated from the mercy of Allah.(Nuzhatul Majalis Vol 2 Page 162)
3 Prostrations to Adam (alehisalam):
When the first time angels prostrate to Adam (as), Satan refuses to prostrate, that prostration was for a short time and then when Angels rise their heads and saw that Satan was standing while having back towards Adam (as), then they perform another prostration, that was for the thankfulness of the blessing (giving them order to prostrate to Adam), this was for Allah and for the thanks and blessings which He bestowed upon them, then, they again rise their foreheads from prostration and they saw that Satan who was first very gorgeous, his face turned into black monkey and his body as a pig.
Note: May be this is the reason that after this account happened the “Jins” or more precisely “demons’s” bodies look like swine and face seems like monkey but its in there powers that they can change their form and shape size etc.
Then ! Angels again prostrate for the third time because of the fear of Allah’s Anger, these three prostrations were towards Adam but thrice were different in form and their length of time was different.
Respect of the Prophet:
It is must to be understood that this world was started from the ‘Respect of the Prophet’ (i-e Adam (as)) Prostration was done for him, and the end of this world will also need Respect and Honor (i-e Shif’at on Judgement day by Prophet Muhammad alehisalatowasalam). In Ibadat the most enriched ibada is Respect of the Prophets. All Angels prostrate in front of Adam but Satan refuses and during his “own made” “Satanic Tauheed” he committed this crime of refusal to prostrate.
Reason of the Word “Iblees – Shay’tan”:
As mentioned already that before accursed his name was ‘Azazil’ but then his name was spoken ‘Iblees’ and ‘Shy’tan’ “Satan”. This word Ibless is drived from the root “Bals” which is having meaning of disappointed one or deceiver. Because he was disappointed from the Mercy of Allah, so that he adopted the ways of decieve and because of this he was called “ibl’ees”, while Word ‘Shytan’ is made from root word “Sh’tn” or “Sht ‘n” , its meaning is ‘Going far away’, because he was gone away from the mercy of Almighty thats why he is known as “shytan” and that is the reason that now a days each person who deceives is generally called “Shytan” or iblees. (Tafsir Naeemi Vol 1 , Page 244)
Kinds of “Jin(s)”:
There are narrations in Hadith shareef that, there are one kind of “jins” who are in the form of reptile (snake), second kind of “jins” are those who are in the form of black dogs, and the third form are those ones who can fly in the sky, they can transform themselves into snakes, scorpions, camels, buffaloes, horses, birds and Humans ofcourse.
In the ‘Hashiya’ of Tafsir al Jalal’ayin it is stated that :
419
Translation:
There are three kinds of Jins, one are those who have wings by which they can fly, one kind is of those who are in the disguise of snakes (reptiles) and dogs, and one are those who can indwelling in and out.(such that, they can possess someone’s body). Also in the exegesis of Surah al Jin of the Holy Quran, tafsir al jalalayin also states in ‘Hashiya” that:
476)
Translation:
…So Jins are made up of Fire, can fly, they are having powers to manifest themselves into different forms and shapes good or bad, so the rule of “surat” ‘face’ can be fitted on them and this is difference among Angels and Jins, because Angels are the creation of ‘Noor’ ‘Light’, they also can change themselves in different shapes but not bad shapes, thats why rule of “surat’ will not apply here.
Qadi Abu Yala says: ….that Shaytan (Jins)cannot change or transform their nature by their own, and neither transforming into other shapes, (may be this is possible) that Allah (azzawajal) has given them such type of ‘Kalimats’ ‘Chanting words’ because of reciting of which they became able to transform or change themselves, but on their own power its is not their personal powers. (in other words Imam is saying that this given power is from Allah to them, not by their own power).
(Tafhim al Bukhari Sharha Bukhari Vol 5 Page 102)
Seeing the ‘Jins’:
Bodies of the ‘Jins’ are compounded and their shapes are different, they are tenuous and claggy, according to Qadi abu Bakr there is a hikayat that, One who saw any Jin is like such that Allah gave him perception of the seeing, and to whom if Allah does not gave (power of seeing), no one is able to see them”.
Some Other Forms of the ‘JINNS’:
Jins are usually as explained in 3 forms but then there are more sub-forms or races of the ‘Jinns’. These kinds have different names e.g
Ghauls, Su’ulata, Ghadaar, Vil’ha’n, and Shi’q.
Ghoul or Ghauls. غول
This is a kind of ‘Jinns’ and evil one, when this kind became alone they never try to attached with anyone, usually can be found in jungles and having different shapes, usually it shown itself in night or otherwise it can show themselves to the travellers when there is no one else than them. The seems to be like human who can dettached travelers from their proper ways of travel.
Su’ulat: سعلاۃ
This is different kind of Jinns from Ghouls, usually they can be found in Jungles, and when they find human they perform unusual dances in front of them to terrify them like a cat playing with mice.
Ghadar: غدار
This kind is found in Yemen, their best example is that, when someone saw this kind of Jinn, human mind became unconscious.
Vil’han: ولہان
These can be found in the shores and near seas. Usually they can be saw in such disguise that a human is sitting upon some animal, this form of Jinns’s foods are those human bodies which Sea throws on the shores.
Shiq: شق
Their identification is that they are of half of the size of ordinary humans, usually they found during travel.
Some Jinns can transform the shape of buffalos and some can in the form of dogs, some of the Jinns love Humans and never harm them, and some Jinns are those who usually overtake virgins or beautiful women. (Tafhim al Bukhari Sharha Bukhari Vol 5 page 43)
There is a famous historical narration in history books and especially about the biography of Hazrat Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani in which one of his “mureed’s ” daughter was kidnapped by Jin… you can read that in biography section of the blog, which can show many more authentic information about their kinds, habits and how to defend.
What Does the Jins Eat?
There are different narrations of Ulema about that point, some are of the opinion that all races of the Jinns eat. some are of the opinion that one kind eats and other kinds neither eat nor drinks. Some says that all Jinns eat and this is more authentic, but the condition of their eating is different, one group of scholars are of opinion that their eating is only smelling and they chew the food but they cannot take it down, but this is not authentic. Some scholars says that they eat just like we humans do (and this is authentic saying). There is a marfu narration in Abu Dawud that Prophet alehisalam says ” Jins (Satan) can eat with him (humans) until they proclaim the name of Allah on the food”. and when they use the name of Allah, the satan vomits whatever he ate from that food”. Wahb bin Manba (rd) was asked question about Jinnats, that whether Jinns eat and do marriage or can they gave birth (i-e generation) and can they die? So he replied to them, there are several kinds of Jinns, Pure Jinns always live in the air, they neither ate nor drink and neither they marry and nor they have children, and some of them not only eat and drink but also having their generations.
Marrying of the Human with Jinn?
Hazrat Allama Mufti ata ul mustapha azami (rta) gave a religious ruling upon a question which was casted to him by someone that what is opinion about the people who says that marrying Jinns are not possible and some Jurists says that it is possible. Ibn Ala’ Kalabi says that the father of “Malka Bilqees” married a she-Jin whose name was Rihana bi’nt Sakn. Balqees was born from this woman, and when she was born her name which was given to her was Balqima. It is said that the back side of her tows were like the hornets of the animals, and was having lots of hairs on them. When Sulaiman (Solomon) (as) marry her, he ordered Satan to make a powder for cleansing of the hairs (hair removal) and bath.
Ibn Asakir narrated from hazrat Abu Huraira (rd) that he said Rasool Allah alehisalam says that one among the parents of Bilqees was from “Jinns”. Once some people from Yemen visited Hazrat Imam Malik bin Anas (rd) and questioned him about the marry of the Jinn, and said that there is one Jin male who has send proposal of marriage for a girl among our tribe and says that he want to marry her. Imam Malik b. Ans(rd) says i do not found anything (religiously bad) about this thing (ie marry of the Jin with human) but i also do not like that when a woman became pregnant and asked about his husband, then she reply in such manner that my husband is a “JINN”, this thing will create more fasad in Islam.
Qadi al Qidat Allama Sharaf ud Deen Bazi was asked question about that, if a human male marry Jinn woman, will sharia allow that? or not, Hazrat Jamal ad deen asnavi says, he replied
There are two verse in Holy Quran because of which Humans are abide from marriage with Jinny (f).
Surah Nehl ayat 72
Al Rome 30:21
There are several problems in marrying any Jinn, some of them are, it is quite impossible to bound any Jinn to be lived in a house, second problem is its is difficult to stop jinny from transformation or shape shifting from one to another shape, its not possible for human husband to stop her, and because of this reason always hate arise, third is Human Marriage need a “Wallee” (a person on the behalf of bride ie father, brother or guardian), the question arises whether jinny can be entitle for such trust? another thing is that whether the marriage Nikah of the Qadi of the Jin(s) are acceptable or not? as one another big problem is if the male has seen the female jinn in another form and when he saw her in some other form from the previous one and the female jiny says that she is that one, how is it possible for normal human to accept that claim, and major of all is the sexual relation and its defects.
Also such kind of other problems also rise from the situation that either the husband would be entitle to provide ‘Her Food’ which are ‘Bones’ and such kind of things?. Narrated from Ammad b.Yunus that , he said, marry with the jin is not allowed because for the reason of love for a couple needs one genetical structure of the both pairs. Some of the scholars are of the opinion that if the Jinn is in such form that they cannot be seen and neither can anyone identify them, such kind of marraige with is not allowed while if its body can be seen and we can saw them with own eyes and we also believe that they are ‘Momin’ ‘Believers’ then marriage is allowed with hesitation. Also scholars said that sexual intercouse is fact which can happen with both species, when there is evidance of the sexual intercourse with jin or jinny with human male females then surely if it is possible then the pregnancy is also possible. Then there are several religious rulings and some explaination but i will leave that because of the length
In book Nuzhatul Muzakira by the authority of Imam Zahri (rta) there is a narration by Hazrat abu saeed khudri(rd), which narrate that i was with Hazrat Ali (rd) during the fight with “Huroriya” (khawarij) in Nehrwan. Hazrat Ali (Rd) was searching for “Za’lid”, some people informed him that he ran away. Hazrat Ali(rd) questioned them if anyone knows him? One person among the tribe says that we know he is “Qous” (i think that means illegitimate in sense without known father)and his mother is also here, Hazrat Ali (rd) send one person towards her and then when she arrived he asked her about his father that who is his father? so the women replied him that i do not know,,, but i remember that during the times of Jahiliyah (when she was pagan) she was shepherd the cattle, some shadow type of thing intercoursed with me and because of that i became pregnant and i gave birth to him. (Note: a very interesting thing is been quoted in the book “imam al zanadiqa ibne taymmiya page 44 by barkati publishers karachi Pakistan) it is stated that Ibn al wahab Najdi was not the son of his Father, and the reason is given in that book is that his known father Abdul Wahab was gone for trade to somewhere, and when he came back after 3 years, he found that ibn al wahab was born and whose age was only one week that time. When he questioned his wife, she said that during this time one person came unto me of your face and he do intercourse with me but his power was less in that, and when i question him about that, he told me that i am Satan, and this child is born due to my work, and so ibn al wahab born from that. Although the mother of abdul wahab najdi was married and religiously the born child will be named by her husband’s lineage but in this incident there is clarification from both sides that he was not born by real Abdul Wahab but by Satan, so he will be considered as illegitimate).(Note: I personally do not know about this story is it right or not i am not taking any responsibility for this story, i am just giving information from different sources and also there is authentic narration of his (abdul wahab najdi’s) own big brother Sheikh Suleman bin Abdul Wahab who was a dominant sheikh he also says that my brother i-e abdul wahab najdi is that horn of the devil which is said in Hadith of Rasool Allah alehisalam about the endtimes”. He also strictly object his blasphemous wahhabi movement and until his death he opposes his wrong radical selfmade wahhabi ideology and for that reason he was assassinated by his own brother abdul wahab (if he was his own)).
Any ways! Let us come back to our subject
In Tartushi Tehreem al Fuwahish, under the heading “From which thing transexuals (Hijra) take birth”, there is narration by Hazrat Abdullah ibne Abbas (rd) that he said ‘Hijray (In the culture of South Asia, hijras /eunuchs are physiological males who have feminine gender identity, adopt feminine gender roles, and wear women’s clothing.) Transexuals are childern of the Jinns”. Someone asked him ‘how is that possible?’ so he replied that Allah and his Apostle prohibit one from doing sexual intercourse during Haiz (Mensturational period), when man reached to his wife, the satan reached there before him i-e (do intercourse before him), and when woman became pregnant their child born transexual’.
Hazrat Mujahid says that when a person do intercourse with her wife without reciting the name of Allah, the satan attached himself with that person’s (P, gentile tool) and in such manner he mixed himself in that gene and intercourse’.
Imam Muslim narrate hadith in his Sahih which is:
Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas:
Allah’s Apostle said, “If anyone of you, when intending to have a sexual relation (sleep) with his wife, says: Bismillah, Allahumma jannibna ash Shaitan, wa Jannib ash-Shaitana ma razaqtana, Satan would never harm that child, should it be ordained that they will have one. (Because of that sleep).” (Muslim/Bukhari)
We usually heard from doctors that when a child is to be born, and because of the oxygen pressures child cry, but Prophet alehisalam says as mentioned in Bukhari Shareef that:
Narrated Said bin Al-Musaiyab:
Abu Huraira said, “I heard Allah’s Apostle saying, ‘There is none born among the off-spring of Adam, but Satan touches it. A child therefore, cries loudly at the time of birth because of the touch of Satan, except Mary and her child.” Then Abu Huraira recited: “And I seek refuge with You for her and for her offspring from the outcast Satan” (3.36)
And our Blessed Prophet peace and blessings be upon him also not cried when he takes birth because Allah has protected his most beloved one from the Satan. (Madarij al Nubuwah vol 2)
Where does the Satan Spend his Night in Human Body?
Narrated Abu Huraira:
The Prophet said, “If anyone of you rouses from sleep and performs the ablution, he should wash his nose by putting water in it and then blowing it out thrice, because Satan has stayed in the upper part of his nose all the night.”
(Bukhari)
Also Jinns are bound to all those rulings which us Humans are bound such that, Namaz Prayers are compulsory on them too who are Muslims and Believers among the Jins, so the Muslim Jins also perform namaz, they are bound to do good and learn religion as well as reciting of Quran and Dawa of the Religion among their fellows. Allama ibne Ammad says that if there are 40 Jinns (muslims) combine, Jumma is binded upon them and when humans and jinns are found in gatherings they usually appears in the form of Humans. (Nuzhatul majalis Vol 2 Page 221)
Note: Keep in mind that this narration of Allama ibne ammad has been quoted by Allama abdur rehman safoori in Nuzhatul majalis and Allama Safoori was a Shaf’ie Scholar, and according to Imam Shafi’e’s Fiqh for the Jumma Prayers atleast 40 people in the gathering is must, so he also deducted this analogical rule upon the Jins, that also means that Jinns are also Muqallad and they follow the respected Fiqh’s imam, In our Hanafi fiqh of Imam al Azam Abu Hanifa (rd) for the Juma gathering 3 people are must else than Imam( the one who perform prayer in front). So that means if there are 3 Jinns available else than Imam (i-e 4 people) then Jumma is Wajib on them. (Wallahu Alam bisawab)
Narrated Ibn `Abbas: Allah’s Messenger went out along with a group of his companions towards `Ukaz Market. At that time something intervened between the devils and the news of the Heaven, and flames were sent down upon them, so the devils returned. Their fellow-devils said, “What is wrong with you? ” They said, “Something has intervened between us and the news of the Heaven, and fires (flames) have been shot at us.” Their fellow-devils said, “Nothing has intervened between you and the news of the Heaven, but an important event has happened. Therefore, travel all over the world, east and west, and try to find out what has happened.” And so they set out and travelled all over the world, east and west, looking for that thing which intervened between them and the news of the Heaven. Those of the devils who had set out towards Tihama, went to Allah’s Messenger at Nakhla (a place between Mecca and Taif) while he was on his way to `Ukaz Market. (They met him) while he was offering the Fajr prayer with his companions. When they heard the Holy Qur’an being recited (by Allah’s Messenger ), they listened to it and said (to each other). This is the thing which has intervened between you and the news of the Heavens.” Then they returned to their people and said, “O our people! We have really heard a wonderful recital (Qur’an). It gives guidance to the right, and we have believed therein. We shall not join in worship, anybody with our Lord.” (See 72.1-2) Then Allah revealed to His Prophet (Surat al- Jinn): ‘Say: It has been revealed to me that a group (3 to 9) of Jinns listened (to the Qur’an).’ (72.1) The statement of the Jinns was revealed to him .
(Bukhari kitab al tafsir Surah al jin 4921)
So when Prophet alehisalam was on his way back from Tribe of “Saqeef” in “Ta’if” to Makkah Mukarimah and during the travel a garden of dates came in way where He spends His night and started Praying in the middle of the night, at that time the group of the Jins from the Tribe of “Nasibeen” were also passing by, before that Jinns were able to reached to the skies and bring news from there and when they were been stopped by doing this and the Angels throw them with the fireballs, the Satan said, Surely there is something happened on the earth that we are not able to reach the skies and take news, so the Satan’s Jinns were spread out on earth to search the reason in each and every corner of the world, and the first group who was the people of “Nasi’been’ reached there and they were the leaders of other Jinns, they were send towards “Tahama” and those Jins when heard as explained in the hadith above they accepted and embraced Islam, and these were the first among the believers and was also send for Dawa purposes among their tribes. In the Hashiya of Jalalayn shareef Page 419, it is stated that these jinns accepted Islam and when they went towards their respective tribes they perform Dawa and their tribes also became Muslims.
Note: There is difference of opinion about how many Jinns came first time to the company of blessed Prophet peace and blessing be upon him, Hazrat ibne Abbas(rd) says they were 7 Jinns, some narrations quoted 9 Jinns, and their names were as this:
‘Munshi‘ , ‘Na’shi, Muna’sin, Ma’zr and Ahqab (tafsir al jalalain)
Some scholars says that because before Islam they were following the laws of Moses, that’s why they talk about the Moses and does not uses the name of the book of Jesus (alehisalam).
Sects in Jinns:
In Holy Quran surah al Jin, there are verses which says on behalf of the Jins that :
“And we have good ones and others and we have many tribes(groups”). that means that there are Muslims, Jews, etc in Jins also as in Humans, and the group of “Naseebeens” were from Judaic religion, also Imam ahmed in his book Nasikh wa Mansookh stated about the sects of the Jins who are having Qd’ree’ya, Murji’ah’s, and She’yaaz are also been found, Suddi also mentions from his Mash’aikh (spiritual mentor) that Jins also have believers, non believers, Kafirs, and all other sects which can be found in Human race.
Love of the Jins for Hazrat Abu Bakr and Hazrat Umar (rd):
Some elders narrate that i was in Egypt when i found one man shouting (although he was not seem to be harmed but still he was shouting),(i-e possessed by the JIn) i asked him in ear that are you truly infected or you are just mocking to be possessed? One Jin told him We are believers but this person was abusing Sheikhen (Abu Bakr and Umar rd) and that is the reason (that we are torturing him). (Nuzhatul majalis vol2, page 575)
Jinns also live in the homes:
Some person sold his property ie, home and when he was about to gone from there, he said loudly that O, the blessed people living here, Allah gave you goodness and blessings because we live here for years but you never did any harm to us!, an unseen sound was heard that, Allah also bless you goodness we will also left this home, because you sold your house to such person who abuses Sahaba ie Shaikhen). (Nuzhatul majalis Vol 2 page 576)
Satan asking Refuge:
Allama nasafi (rta) says that one female Jinny came to the Prophet alehisalam to accept the truth of Islam, and after that was not seen for few days, and then she appeared, Rasool Allah alehisalam asked her for her absense, she replied, i was gone to ‘Koh’e’qaf’ to meet my family and i saw a very un natural thing there and that was that i saw one person saying O Allah!i want that death which came in the love of Abubakr and Umar (rd), and second person was saying O Allah! i seek your refuge from that Fire which you burned for the enemies of Abu Bakar and Umar (rd). Prophet alehisalam said;’ First person was Hazrat Khizar (alehisalam) and the second one was Satan.(Nuzhatul majalis)
That means that even Satan seek refuge from the miscreants and deviants who abuses Sahaba or Ahlu baits.
Jinns have built Bait al Muqaddas: (First Qibla in Holy Land of Palestine)
Scholars said that Jins were bound to Hazrat Sulaiman (as) (Solomon) this is also stated in Holy Quran in Surah Naml verse 17
Scholars said that Jins build Bait al Muqaddas which was only built in human height by Dawud (david) (alehisalam) (i-e till human height), then Sulaiman (alehisalam) completed it and made it with White, Yellow and Green stones and when the Bait al Muqaddas was completed, he declared that day as Eid Day. When the time of the death came near to the Prophet Sulaiman (peace be upon him), and when he became aware of his death, he prayed o Allah! keep hide my death from the Jinns, so, the humans can able to know that Jinns do not know the knowledge of unseen, while Jins always show themselves as knowledgeables, after the prayers, Suleman alehisalam went to Bait-al-Muqadasa’s Mehrab and when he stand up for Prayer, he died during that stand, there were windows in front and back of the place where he was standing and the Jins were doing their usual hardwork, while when they take a look at him, they think that he is still alive and standing there and watching them, 1 year in such position he was standing until one day his stick was broken and he fall down (Tafhim al bukhari vol 5 page 286)
In Sharah of Bukhari shareef under ayat “Wa minal Jinne min yamal bayna yadeyhe bizni rabihi” is stated that Sone Jins were those jins among other who work in front of Him always, Allama siddi says that “Shayateens” (Satans) used to climb the skies and whatever was suggested on the skies for the people on earth, they usually heard that and mixed it with their own and told all that to the “Kahins” “Priests of Pagans” in which they also include their own words and then What the Jins heard from the Angels and their gossips they used it for their purposes and the priests also do the same for them, so it was gain much popularity among the Banu israelites that they use to write it down in their books, and in Isralities this thing was gain popularity that the Jinns know the knowledge of unseen, so Hazrat Suleman alehisalam send his envoys and collect all those books and save them in a box under his chair, none of among the Jinns were able to even get themselves near to that Chair, if someone tries that to do they burn in ashes.
Depiction of the Satan according to Satanism
Insha-Allah soon this article will be updated with more information as collected from different sources
UPDATED 10-13-2013 9:00 PM
It would be more better to explain the event and creation of Adam and Eve and the attachment of the Satan from the very beginning of our Human Race i-e ADAM.
Informing the Angels About Adam
Allah the Almighty revealed:
“Remember when your Lord said to the angels: ‘Verily, I am going to place mankind generations after generations on earth.’ They said: ‘Will You place therein those who will make mischief therein and shed blood, while we glorify You with praises and thanks (exalted be You above all that they associate with You as partners) and sanctify You.’ Allah said: ‘I know that which you do not know.’
Allah taught Adam all the names of everything, thenHe showed them to the angels and said:
“Tell Me the names of these if you are truthful.” They (angels) said: “Glory be to You, we have no knowledge except what You have taught us. Verily, it is You, the All-Knower, the All-Wise.”
He said: “O Adam! Inform them of their names,” and when he had informed them of their names, He said: “Did I not tell you that I know the unseen in the heavens and the earth, and I know what you reveal and what you have been hiding?”
Remember when We said to the angels: “Prostrate yourself before Adam” They prostrated except Iblis, he refused and was proud and was one of the disbelievers(disobedient to Allah).”
We said: “O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in the Paradise and both of you freely with pleasure and delight of things therein as wherever you will but come not near this tree or you both will be of the Zalimeen (wrongdoers).” Then the Satan made them slip there from (the Paradise), and got them out from that in which they were. We said: “Get you down all with enmity between yourselves. On earth will be a dwelling place for you and an enjoyment for a time.”
Then Adam received from his Lord Words. His Lord pardoned him (accepted his repentance). Verily He is the One Who forgives (accepts repentance), the most Merciful. We said: “Get down all of you from this place (the Paradise), then whenever there comes to you Guidance from Me, and whoever follows My Guidance there shall be no fear on them, nor shall they grieve. But those who disbelieve and belie Our Ayah (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, and signs and revelations, etc) such are the dwellers of the Fire, they shall abide therein forever.” (Chapter 2:30-39, Qur’an).
Almighty Allah also revealed:
“And surely, We created you (your father Adam) and then gave you shape (the noble shape of a human being), then We told the angels, “Prostrate to Adam”, and they prostrated, except Iblis, he refused to be those who prostrate. Allah said: “What prevented you (O Iblis) that you did not prostrate when I commanded you?” Iblis said: “I am better than him (Adam), You created me from fire and him You created from clay.” Allah said: “O Iblis get down from this (Paradise),it is not for you to be arrogant here. Get out for you are of those humiliated and disgraced.”
Iblis said: “Allow me respite till the Day they are raised up (Day of Resurrection).”
Allah said: “You are of those allowed respite.”
Iblis said: “Because You have sent me astray, surely I will sit in wait against them (human beings) on Your Straight Path. Then I will come to them from before them and behind them, from their right and from their left and You will not find most of them as thankful ones (they will not be dutiful to You).”
Allah said: “Get out from Paradise, disgraced and expelled. Whoever of them (mankind) will follow you, then surely I will fill Hell with you all.” “And O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in Paradise, and eat thereof as you both wish, but approach not this tree otherwise you both will be of the Zalimeen (unjust and wrongdoers).”
“Then Satan whispered suggestions to them both in order to uncover that which was hidden from them of their private parts before, he said:” Your Lord did not forbid you this tree save you should become angels or become of the immortals.” Satan swore by Allah to them both saying: “Verily I am one of the sincere well wishers for you both.”
So he misled them with deception. Then when they tasted of the tree, that which was hidden from them of their shame (private parts) became manifest to them and they began to stick together the leaves of Paradise over themselves (in order to cover their shame). Their Lord called out to them saying “Did I not forbid you that tree and tell you, Verily Satan is an open enemy unto you?”
They said: “Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You forgive us not, and bestow not upon us Your Mercy, we shall certainly be of the losers.” Allah said: “Get down one of you an enemy to the other (i.e. Adam, Eve, and Satan etc).On earth will be a dwelling place for you and an enjoyment, for a time.” He said: “therein you shall live, and therein you shall die, and from it you shall be brought out (resurrected).” (Chapter 7:11-25 Qur’an).
We imagine when Allah the Almighty decided to create Adam: He addressed His angels and told them to prostrate before him. He did not mean to ask their opinion or take their advice, for He is above that. Allah the Exalted told them that He was going to create a vicegerent on the earth who would have children and grand children who would corrupt the earth and shed each other’s blood. That is why the angels said to Allah the Almighty: “Will You place therein those who will make mischief therein and shed blood!” (Chapter 2:30 Quran).
Imam Ibne Kaseer gave us information in his qisasul anbiya that!
There are old traditions about the angels before the creation of Adam. According to Ibn Qatadah, it was said that the angels were informed about the creation of Adam and his progeny by the jinn who lived before Adam. Abdullah Ibn Umar said that the jinn had existed for about 2000 years before Adam and then shed blood. Therefore Allah sent on them an army of angels that drove them out to the depths of the seas.
Ibn Abi Hatim narrated from Ali Jafar Al Baqer that the angels were informed that man would cause wickedness and shed blood on earth. It was also said that they knew that no one would be created on earth who would not be wicked and shed blood.
Whether or not these traditions are correct, the angels did understand that Allah would create a vicegerent on earth. Allah the Almighty announced that HE was going to create a human being out of clay, that HE would mould him and blow His spirit into him and then the angels should prostrate before him.
Abi Musa al Sha’arai narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “Allah created Adam from a handful of dust taken from different lands, so the children of Adam have been created according to the composition of the land. Therefore from mankind we have white, red, black and yellow ones; we have good and evil, ease and sorrow, and what comes in between them.” (Sahih al Bukhari).
Ibn Masud and other companions of the Prophet (PBUH) said that Allah the Almighty sent Gabriel onto the earth to say that Allah the Almighty sent Gabriel onto the earth to get Him clay there from. The earth said: “I seek refuge in Allah from your decreasing my quantity or disfiguring me.” So Gabriel returned and did not take anything. He said: “My Lord, the land sought refuge in You and it was granted.”
So Allah sent Michael for the same purpose, and theland sought refuge with Allah and it was granted. So he went back and said to Allah what Gabriel has said before him. Then Allah sent the Angel of Death, and the land sought refuge in Allah, the angel said: “I also seek refuge with Allah from returning without carrying out His command.” So he took clay from the face of the earth and mixed it. He did not take from one particular place, but rather he took white, red, and black clay from different places.
The Angel of Death ascended with it, Allah soaked the clay till it became sticky. Then Allah said to the angels:
“Truly, I am going to create man from clay. So whenI have fashioned him and breathed into him (his) soul created by Me, then you fall down prostrate to him.” (Chapter 38:71-72 Quran).
So Allah shaped Adam into a human being, but he remained a figure of clay for forty years. The angels went past him. They were seized with fear by what they saw, and Iblis felt fear most. He used to pass by the figure of Adam, buffeting it, which would make a sound like pottery. Allah told us:
“He created man (Adam) from sounding clay like the clay of pottery.” (Chapter 55: Quran).
When the time drew near to breathe the spirit into Adam, as Allah decreed, He commanded the angels: “When I breathe My spirit into him prostrate before him.” Allah breathed His spirit into Adam and when it reached his head Adam sneezed. The angels said: “Say all praise belongs to Allah.” Adam repeated: “All praise belongs to Allah.” Allah said to him: “Your Lord has granted you mercy.” When the spirit reached his eyes, Adam looked at the fruits of Paradise. When it reached his abdomen Adam felt an appetite for food. He jumped hurriedly before the spirit could reach his legs, so that he could eat from the fruits of Paradise. Allah, therefore, said:
“Man is created of haste.” (Chapter 21:37 Quran).
And then:
“The angels prostrated themselves all of them together. Except Iblis, he refused to be among the prostrators. (Ch 15:31-32 Quran).
Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Allah created Adam from dust after He mixed the clay and left him for some time until it became sticky mud, after which Allah shaped him. After that Allah left him till it became like potter’s clay. Iblis used to go past him saying ‘You have been created for a great purpose.’ After that Allah breathed His spirit into him. The first thing into which the spirit passed was his eye and then his nose. He sneezed. Allah said: “May your Lord have mercy upon you, O Adam! Go to those angels and see what they would say.’ So Adam went and greeted them. they replied saying: “Peace be upon you and the mercy and blessings of Allah.” Allah said: “O Adam! This is your greeting and that of your offspring.” (Sahih al Bukhari).
Adam’s Progeny Accept Allah
Allah the Almighty revealed:
“Remember when your Lord brought forth from the children of Adam, from their loins, their seed (or from Adam’s loin his offspring) and made them testify as to themselves saying: ‘Am I not your Lord?’ They said: ‘Yes! We testify’ lest you should say on the Day of Resurrection:
‘Verily we have been unaware of this’. Or lest you should say: ‘It was only our father aforetime who took others as partners in worship along with Allah and we were merely their descendants after them; will you then destroy us because of the deeds of men who practiced al batil (polytheism) and committing crimes and sins, invoking and worshipping others besides Allah?’
Thus do We explain the Ayah (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations etc) in detail so that they may turn unto the truth“. (Ch 7:172-174 Quran).
Adam’s progeny declared: “Our Lord, we bear witness that You are our Lord; we have no other Lord but Allah. Allah raised their father Adam, and he looked at them and saw those of them who were rich and those who were poor, and those who had good forms and those who did not. Adam said: “O Allah! I wish You to make Your servants equal.” Allah replied “I love being thanked.” Adam saw among them prophets like lamps among his progeny.
The Prophet’s Covenant
Almighty Allah declared:
“Remember when We took from the Prophets their covenant, and from you (O Muhammad), and from Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus son of Mary. We took from them a strong covenant. (Ch 33:7 Quran).
In another verse Allah the Exalted commanded:
“So set you (O Muhammad) your face towards the religion of pure Islamic Monotheism Hanifan (worship none but Allah Alone) Allah’s Fitrah (Allah’s Islamic Monotheism), with which He has created mankind. No change let there be in khalqillah (the Religion of Allah—Islamic Monotheism), that is the straight religion, but most men know not.” (Ch 30:30 Quran).
Another version of the story relates that Allah took a handful of the dust of the earth and mixed into it the colors, white, black, yellow and red. That is the reason why men are born different colors. When Allah mixed the dust with water, it turned into potter’s clay that makes a sound. It was fermented and had a smell. Iblis passed by, wondering what was going to be made of that clay. From the clay Allah created Adam. He moulded his form with His own hands and blew His spirit into him. Adam’s body quivered as life was imbued into it.
“Then We drowned the other (disbelievers and polytheists, etc.).” (Ch 37:82 Quran).
Similarity between Adam and Jesus (PBUT)
Allah the Almighty declared:
“Verily the likeness of Jesus, in Allah’s Sight is the likeness of Adam, He created him from the dust then He said to him “Be!” –and he was. (Ch 3:59 Quran).
The Meaning of the Angel’s Prostration
Adam opened his eyes and saw all the angels prostrating before him except one being who was standing at a distance Adam did not know what kind of creature it was that did not prostrate before him nor did he know its name. Iblis was standing with the angels so as to be included in the command given to them but he was not one of them. He was a jinn, and as such he was supposed to be inferior to the angels. What is clear is that this prostration was to show respect and did not mean that the angels were worshipping Adam. Prostrating in
worship is done only for Allah. Almighty Allah recounted the story of Iblis’s refusal to prostate before Adam:
“Remember when your Lord said to the angels, ‘I am going to create a man (Adam) from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud. So when I have fashioned him completely and breathed into him (Adam) the soul which I created for him then fall you down prostrating yourselves unto him’. So the angels prostrated themselves all of them together, except Iblis, he refused to be among the prostrators. Allah said:’O Iblis! What is your reason for not being among the prostrators?’ Iblis said: ‘I am not the one to prostrate myself to a human being, whom You created from sounding clay of altered black smooth mud.’ Allah said: ‘Then get out
from here for verily you are Rajim (an outcast or cursed one). Verily the curse shall be upon you till Day of Recompense (Day of Resurrection)'”. (Ch 15:28-35 Quran).
In another surah Almighty Allah recounted it thus:
“Surely We created you (your father Adam) and then gave you shape (the noble shape of a human being), then We told the angels: ‘Prostrate to Adam and they prostrated except Iblis he refused to be of those who prostrate“.
Allah said: “What prevented you Iblis that you did not prostrate when I commanded you?” Iblis said: ‘I am better than him (Adam), You created me from fire and him You created from clay.’ Allah said: ‘Get down from this Paradise, it is not for you to be arrogant here. Get out, for you are of those humiliated and disgraced.’ Iblis said: ‘Allow me respite till the Day of Resurrection).’ Allah said: ‘You are of those allowed respite.'” (Ch 7:11-15 Quran).
Ibn Jarir reported that Muhammad Ibn Sirin said that the first one to reach a conclusion by reasoning was Iblis and that the sun and moon were not worshiped except through this method. This means that Iblis tried to compare himself to Adam. He believed that he was more honorable than Adam. Therefore he abstained from prostrating even though Allah had commanded him to do so, just as He had commanded the angels. If an analogy is made we see that Iblis is vain. For indeed clay is better than fire because in it can be found the qualities of calmness, clemency, perseverance and growth; whereas in fire can be found heedlessness, insignificance, haste, and incineration.Iblis tried in vain to justify his refusal:
“Shall I prostrate to one whom You created from clay?” Iblis said: “See those whom You have honored above me, if You give me respite (keep me alive) to the Day of Resurrection, I will surely seize and mislead his offspring (by sending them astray) all but a few!” (Ch 17:62 Quran).
Adam was following what was happening around him and had feelings of love, awe, and astonishment. Deep love of Allah, Who had created and glorified him and Who had made His angels prostrate before him. Awe of the Creator’s wrath when He excluded Iblis from His mercy. Adam was surprised by this creature, Iblis who abhorred him without even knowing him and who imagined himself better than Adam without having proved that he was worthier. What a strange creature Iblis was, and how strange was his excuse for not prostrating!
He imagined that fire is better than clay, but how did he get such an idea? Such knowledge is exclusive to Allah Who created fire and clay and Who knows which is the better of the two. From the dialogue Adam realized that Iblis was a creature characterized by cunning and ingratitude. He then knew that Iblis was his eternal enemy. He was greatly astonished at Iblis’s audacity and Allah’s tolerance. Immediately after his creation Adam witnessed the large amount of freedom that Allah gives to His commissioned creatures.
Allah knew that Iblis was not going to obey Him in prostrating before Adam. Allah could have totally annihilated him or turned him into a handful of dust or stifled the refusal in his mouth. Yet, Allah gives His commissioned creatures absolute freedom even to the extent that they can refuse Allah the Almighty’s commands. He grants them the freedom of denial, disobedience, and even disagreement with Him. His kingdom will not diminish if the disbelievers do not believe in Him nor will it be extended if many people believe in Him. On the contrary, the disbelievers will lose, and the believers will gain but Allah is above all of that.
There were many traditions about Iblis at the time of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Ibn Masud, Ibn Abbas and a group of the companions of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that Iblis had been the head of the angels in the worldly heavens. Ibn Abbas said in one narration that his name had been Azazil and in another narration he said it had been Al Harith. Ibn Abbas also said that Iblis was a jinn and that they had once been the keepers of Paradise, with Iblis the most honorable and the most learned and the most pious of them.
Another tradition says that he had been one of the famous four possessors of wings (angels), before Allah transformed him into the accursed Satan. Allah Almighty recounts Iblis’s disobedience in another surah:
“Remember when your Lord said to the angels: ‘Truly I am going to create man from clay. So when I have fashioned him and breathed into him (his) soul created by Me, then you fall down prostrate to him.’ So the angels prostrated themselves all of them; except Iblis, he was proud and was one of the disbelievers.”
Allah said: “The truth is, and the truth I say, that I will fill Hell with you and those of them (mankind) that follow you together.” (Ch 38:71-85 Quran).
The Reason for Adam’s Creation
After this lesson about freedom Adam learned another lesson, one about knowledge. Adam realized that Iblis was the symbol of evil in the universe and that the angels were the symbol of good. However he did not yet know anything about himself. Then Allah made him perceive his true identity and the reason for his creation, and the secret of his glorification. Allah the Exalted said: “He taught Adam all the names of everything”. (Ch 2:31 Quran).
Teaching Adam
Almighty Allah granted Adam the power to know the natures of all things and to summarize them by names; that is a bird, that is a star, that is a tree, etc. Allah implanted in Adam an insatiable need for and love of knowledge and a desire to bequeath knowledge to his children. This was the reason for his creation and the secret of his glorification.
After Adam had learned the names of all things, along with their properties and uses, Allah presented them to the angels and said:
“Tell Me the names of these if you are truthful.”(Ch 2:31 Quran)
The angels admitted their inability:
“Glory be to You, we have knowledge except what Youhave taught us. Verily it is You the All Knower, the All Wise.” (Ch 2:32)
Allah Almighty then turned to Adam:
“O Adam! Inform them of their names,” and when he had informed them of their names, He said: ‘Did I not tell you that I know the unseen in the heavens and the earth, and I know what you reveal and what you have been hiding?'” (Ch 2:33).
Allah wanted the angels to know that He knew of their astonishment when He had told them about the creation of Adam and that He also knew of their confusion which they had not revealed, as well as what Iblis had concealed of his disobedience and ingratitude. The angels realized that Adam was the creature who knew what they did not know and that his capacity to learn was his noblest quality. His knowledge included knowledge of the Creator which we call faith or Islam, as well as the knowledge he would need to inhabit and
master the earth. All kinds of worldly knowledge which are included in this.
Adam knew the names of everything. Sometimes he talked to the angels, but they were preoccupied with worshipping Almighty Allah. Therefore Adam, felt lonely. One day he slept and when he awoke he found near his head, a woman gazing at his face with beautiful tender eyes. The angels asked him her name he replied: “Eve (Hawa).” (means living things). They asked: “Why did you call her Eve?” Adam said: “Because she was created of me and I am a living being.”
Adam Sees Eve
Ibn Abbas and a group of companions of the Prophet (PBUH) narrated that when Iblis was sent out of Paradise and Adam was accommodated therein, Adam was alone in Paradise and did not have a partner from whom he could get tranquillity. He slept for some time and when he woke up, he saw a woman whom Allah had created from his ribs. So he asked her, “Who are you? She replied, “A woman” He asked: “Why have you been created?” She said: “So that you could find tranquillity in me.” The angels, trying to find out the extent of his knowledge, asked him: “What is her name, O Adam?” He replied, “Eve”. They asked: “Why was she so named?” He replied,” Because she was created from something living.”
Eve’s Creation
Muhammad Ibn Ishaaq and Ibn Abbas related that Eve was created from the shortest left rib of Adam while he was sleeping and after awhile she was clothed with flesh. That is why Allah the Exalted said:
“O Mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a single person (Adam) and from Him (Adam) He created his wife (Eve), and from them both He created many men and women. (Ch 4:1)
Allah also said:
“It is he Who has created you from a single person (Adam) and then He created from him his wife (Eve), in order that he might enjoy the pleasure of living with her.”(Ch 7:189).
Establishing the Islamic Greeting
Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “O Muslims! I advise you to be gentle with women, for they are created from a rib, and the most crooked portion of the rib is its upper part. If you try to straighten it,it will break and if you leave it, it will remain crooked, so I urge you to take care of the women.” (Sahih Bukhari).
Allah commanded Adam to dwell in Paradise: “O Adam! Dwell you and your wife in the Paradise and eat both of you freely with pleasure and delight of things therein as wherever you will, but come not near this tree or you both will be of the Zalimeen (wrong doers).”(Ch 2:35)
The Location of Adam and Eve’s Paradise
The location of this Paradise is unknown to us. The Quran did not reveal it, and the commentators had five different opinions. Some said that it was the paradise of our refuge and that its place was heaven. Others regretted that statement because if it was the paradise of refuge Iblis would have been forbidden admission and disobedience would have been forbidden as well. Still others said that it was another paradise that was created by Allah for Adam and Eve. A fourth group said it was a paradise on the earth located in a high place.
Another group of commentators accept what was in the Quran without questioning where this paradise was located. We agree with this last opinion as the lesson we learn from its location is immaterial compared to the lesson we learn from the events that took place there.
Allah’s Warning to Adam and Eve
Adam and eve were admitted to Paradise and there they lived the dream of all human beings. Allah permitted them to approach and enjoy everything except one tree, that might have been the Tree of Pain or the Tree of Knowledge. Allah forbade them they were give abode in Paradise.
“But come not near this tree or you both will be of the wrong doers.” (Ch 2:35)
Adam’s Weakness
Adam and Eve understood that they were forbidden to eat the fruit of that tree. Adam was however a human being and man tends to forget. His heart changes and his will weakens. Iblis summoned all the envy within him and took advantage of Adam’s humanity to exploit him. He started to whisper to him day after day, coaxing him: “Shall I guide you to the Tree of Immortality and the Eternal Kingdom?” He said to them:
“Your Lord did not forbid you this tree save you should become angels or become of the immortals.” He (Satan) swore by Allah to them both saying: “Verily I am one of the sincere well wishers for you both.” (Ch 7:20-21)
Adam asked himself: “What will happen if I eat from this tree? It might truly be the Tree of Immortality.” His dream was to live forever in the pure innocence of Paradise.” Years went by, and Adam and Eve were preoccupied with thoughts of that tree. Then one day they decided to eat of its fruit. They forgot that Allah had warned them not to approach it and that Iblis was their sworn enemy. Adam stretched out his hand, picked one of the fruits and offered it to Eve. They both ate of the forbidden tree.
Allah Almighty told us: “So he (Satan) misled them with deception.” (Ch 7:22)
Allah said: “Thus did Adam disobey his Lord so he went astray.” (Ch 20:121).
According to the Old Testament, Eve was tempted by the serpent to eat of the forbidden tree. She ate because of the words of the serpent and fedAdam some of it. At that moment, their eyes were opened to the fact that they were naked, and they took the leaves of the fig tree to cover themselves. Wahb Ibn Munabah said that their clothing (before their sin) was made of light on the private parts of both of them. This story in the Old Testament is a falsification and deception. Allah the Almighty revealed:
“O Children of Adam! Let not Satan deceive you, as he got your parents (Adam and Eve) out of Paradise stripping them of their raiment; to show them their private parts. Verily he and Qabiluhu (his soldiers from the jinn or his tribe) see you from where you cannot see them. Verily, We made the devils (protectors and helpers) for those who believe not.” (Ch 7:27)
Adam had hardly finished eating when he felt his heart contract, and he was filled with pain, sadness and shame. The surrounding atmosphere had changed and the internal music had stopped. He discovered that he and his wife were naked, so they both started cutting tree leaves with which to cover themselves.
Condensed Story of Adam and Allah’s Promise
Allah the Almighty addressed him:
“Did I not forbid you that tree and tell you: Verily Satan is an open enemy unto you?” They said: “Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If You forgive us not, and bestow not upon us Your Mercy, we shall certainly be of the losers.” Allah said; “Get down, one of you an enemy to the other (Adam, Eve, and Satan etc). On earth will be a dwelling place for you and an enjoyment, for a time.” He said: “Therein you shall live and therein you shall die, and from it you shall be brought out (resurrected).” (7:22-25).
Again there are old stories about these events. Al Hafez Ibn Asaker narrated that Allah commanded two angels to remove Adam from His holy proximity. So Gabriel stripped him of the crown on his head, and Michael took the diadem from his forehead. Adam thought that his punishment had been hastened and bowed down crying; “Forgiveness! Forgiveness!” so Allah asked: “Are you running away from Me?” Adam replied, “No, my Lord, but I am shy of You.” Abdul Rahman Ibn Amru Al-Awza’iy said that Adam spent 100 years in Paradise. In another narration it was said he spent 60 years. Ibn Asaker reported that Adam wept for 60 years for his loss of Paradise and 70 years for his mistake, and he wept for another 70 years when his son was killed. They left Paradise and descended upon the earth. Adam was sad and Eve was crying. Allah accepted their repentance because it was sincere and He told them that the earth would be their realm and origin where they would live and die and whence they would come on the Day of Judgment.
Allah the Almighty recounted this third lesson Adam learned in Paradise:
“Indeed We made a covenant with Adam before, but he forgot, and We found on his part no firm will power. Remember when We said to the angels “Prostrate yourselves to Adam.” They prostrated (all) except Iblis, who refused. then We said: “O Adam! verily, this is an enemy to you and to your wife. so let him not get you both out of Paradise, so that you be distressed in misery. Verily, you have (a promise from Us) that you will never be hungry therein nor naked.
And you will suffer not from thirst therein nor from the sun’s heat.” then Satan whispered to him, saying “O Adam! Shall I lead you to the Tree of Eternity and to a kingdom that will never waste away?” Then they both ate of that tree, and so their private parts appeared to them, and they began to stick on themselves the leaves from Paradise for their covering. Thus did Adam disobey his Lord, so he went astray. Then his Lord chose him, and turned to him with forgiveness and gave him guidance. Allah said: “Get you down (upon the earth), both of you, together from Paradise, some of you are an enemy to some others. Then if there comes to you guidance from Me, then whoever follows My Guidance shall neither go astray, nor fall into distress and misery. But whosoever turns away from My Reminder (neither believes in this Quran nor acts on its orders etc), verily, for him is a life of hardship and We shall raise him up blind on the Day of Resurrection.”
He will say: “O my Lord! Why have you raised me up blind, while I had sight before?” Allah will say: “like this, Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc) came unto you, but you disregarded them (you left them, did not think deeply in them, and you turned away from them), and so this Day, you will be neglected in the Hellfire, away from Allah’s Mercy.)” And thus do We requite him who transgresses beyond bounds (commits the great sins and disobeys his Lord (Allah) and believes not in His Messengers, and His
revealed Books, like this Quran etc), and believes not in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc) of his Lord, and the torment of the Hereafter is far more severe and more lasting.” (Ch 20:115-127)
Commentary: Why Adam and Eve Descended
Some people believe that the reason why mankind does not dwell in Paradise is that Adam was disobedient and that if it had not been for this sin, we could have been there all along. These are naive fictions because when Allah wanted to create Adam, He said to the angels, “I shall make a vicegerent on the earth.” He did not say, “I shall make a vicegerent in Paradise.”
Adam’s descent on earth, then, was not due to degradation but rather it was dignified descent. Allah knew that Adam and Eve would eat of the tree and descend to earth. He knew that Satan would rape their innocence. That experience was essential for their life on earth; it was a corner stone of their vicegerency. It was meant to teach Adam, Eve, and their progeny that it was Satan who had caused them to be expelled from Paradise and that the road to Paradise can only be reached by obedience to Allah and enmity to Satan.
Commentary: Adam’s Free Will
Could it be said that Adam and the rest of mankind were predestined to sin and to be expelled from Paradise and sent to the earth? In fact, this fiction is as naive as the first one. Adam had complete free will, and he bore the consequences of his deed. He disobeyed by eating of the forbidden tree, so Allah dismissed him from Paradise. His disobedience does not negate his freedom. On the contrary it is a consequence of it The truth of the matter is that Allah knew what was going to happen, as He always knows the outcome of events before they take place. However Allah does not force things to happen. He grants free will to His human creatures. On that He bases His supreme wisdom in populating the earth, establishing the vicegerents, and so on.
Adam understood his 3rd lesson. He knew now in a practical way that Iblis was his enemy, the cause of his losing the blessing of living in Paradise, and the cause of his distress. Adam also understood that Allah punishes disobedience and that the way of Paradise has to be through submission to the will of Allah. And he learned from Allah Almighty to ask for forgiveness. Allah accepted Adam’s repentance and forgave him. He then sent him to the earth as His first messenger.
Encounter between Adam and Moses (PBUT) Hadith
Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Messenger (PBUH) said: “Adam and Moses argued with each other. Moses said to Adam: ‘Your sin expelled you from Paradise.’ Adam said: ‘ You are Moses whom Allah selected as His messenger and as the one to whom He spoke directly. Yet you blame me for a thing which had already been written in my fate before my Creation?” Allah’s Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said twice, “So Adam outclassed Moses.” (Sahih Bukhari).
Umar Ibn Al Khattab also narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “Moses (PBUH) said: ‘My Lord! May I see Adam who removed us and himself from the Paradise?” So Allah made him see Adam and he said to him: “Are you Adam?” Adam said: “Yes.” And he said “Were you the one in Whom Allah breathed His spirit and before whom He bowed His angels and to whom He taught the names of all things?” Adam answered: “Yes.” So Moses said: “What made you remove us and yourself from Paradise?” Adam said: “Who are you?” Moses said: “I am Moses.” Adam said: “So you are Moses the prophet of the Children of Israel. Were you the one Allah spoke to directly?” Moses answered “Yes.” Adam said: “Why do you blame me for a matter which Allah had predestined?” So Allah’s Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said
twice. “Adam outclassed Moses.” (Sahih al Bukhari).
Variation of Where Adam, Eve, and Iblis Descended
There are many traditions concerning the place of Adam’s descent upon earth. Ibn Abi Hatim narrated that Ibn Abbas said: “Adam descended on land ‘Dihna’ between Mecca and Taif.” Al- Hassan said that Adam descended in India and Eve in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), Iblis Bodistiman (Iraq), and the serpent in Ashahan (Iran). This last was also reported by Ibn Hatim. Ass’ady related that Adam descended with the Black Stone (a large black stone set into the wall of the Ka’ba in Mecca. It is said to have come from Paradise) in India, and he had a handful of the seeds of Paradise. He sowed them in India and they grew into the fragrant tree therein.
(Note: there are similar saying in Tabqat ibn as – Saa’d i will try to add that information in next update)
Ibn Umar said that Adam descended on As-Safa and Eve on Al Marwa (names of two mountains in the vicinity of the sacred house in Mecca. Part of the rites of pilgrimage (hajj) includes pacing between these two hills in commemoration of Hajar’s search for water). This was also reported by Ibn Hatim. Abdul Razzaq reported that Abi Musa Al-Shari said that when Allah ordered Adam to descend from Paradise to earth, He taught him the making of everything and provided him with the crops from Paradise.
Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “The best of days on which the sun has risen is Friday. One this day Adam was created, and on this day he was descended to earth.” (Al Bukhari)
Adam’s Life on Earth
Adam knew he bade farewell to peace and he left Paradise. On earth he had to face conflict and struggle. No sooner had one ended than another began. He also had to toil to sustain himself. He had to protect himself with clothes and weapons and protect his wife and children from the wild beasts. Above all, he had to struggle with the spirit of evil. Satan, the cause of his expulsion from Paradise, continued to beguile him and his children in an effort to have them thrown into the eternal hellfire. The battle between good and evil is continuous, but those who follow Allah’s guidance should fear nothing while those who disobey Allah and follow Iblis will be damned along with him. Adam grasped all of this and with the knowledge of this suffering he started his life on the earth. The only thing that allayed his grief was that he was master of the earth and had to make it yield to him. He was the one who had to perpetuate, cultivate and construct and populate the earth. He was also the one who had to procreate and raise children who would change and improve the world.
The First Four Children
The pinnacle of earthly bliss was reached when Adam and Eve witnessed the birth of their first children, a set of twins. Adam was a devoted father and Eve a contented mother. The twins were Cain (Qabil) and his sister. Later Eve gave birth to a second set of twins, Abel (Habil) and his sister. The family enjoyed the bounties and fruits of the earth provided by their Lord. The children grew up to be strong and healthy young adults. Cain tilled the land while Abel raised cattle.
Cain’s Disobedience
The time arrived when the two young men desired life partners. This was part of Allah’s plan for mankind, to multiply and form nations with different cultures and colors. Allah revealed to Adam that he should marry each son to the twin sister of the other. Adam instructed his children according to Allah’s command, but Cain was displeased with the partner chosen for him, for Abel’s twin sister was not as beautiful as his own.

Meaning: Iblees (Satan) is the father of JINS who were living among Malaika (Angels). In Nuzhatul Majalis, Qadi Iyad (rta) says, that Iblees is the father of race of the Jins just like Adam is the Father of all Human kind.
Iblees (satan) and his Wife and Children:
There are different narrations regarding this matter. According to one hadith narrated in Nuzhatul majalis which states that “when Allah (swt) wants to made the wife of Satan, he dominate anger upon him, because of which a flame was lofted and from that flame his women was been made. And so do their race started to grow. Another narration says that Satan (Iblees) ‘s one thigh is having male productive organ and in other thigh there is female productive organ, he do intercourse with himself and by his ownself get pregnant and gave birth to his race by giving eggs (like animals) from which his race emerges. (Note:) (Compare sins or habits like Gay-ism and Lesbianism Sodomizing with this point you will find the link between Satan and these deeds) In Sharha Kharpowti it is written that :
1) و الله جعل لکم من انفسکم ازواجا
2) و من ايته ان خلق لکم من انفسکم ازواجا لتسکنوا اليها
